Been loving the blog posts and i commend you for all the hard work on your homestead as well as this substack. makes me feel right at home while reading. Question for you, I have some family land ive always dreamed of turning into my own homestead. lets say i live in a more northern part of the midwest, any tips for housing chickens/goats in the colder months? a bigger barn? possibly a boiler attached for heating? much appreciated and keep up the grind!
Hello There Ser! Thank you for following along, I’m glad you enjoy the content. As you can see from some of the pictures, I’m pretty far south, it’s over 100 degree heat index with unbearable humidity. I wouldn’t last a day where you’re thinking about starting your farm. That being said, yes you are going to have to put in a lot of work to keep everyone alive on your farm. We had an ice storm down here this year and Everything was frozen for about a week. It was really stressful keeping everyone fed and watered. I would do plenty of research and try to find someone in the area who is doing what you plan to do and I would copy them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything else.
Never caught a skunk, knock on wood. If I caught a skunk I guess you would have to put an old blanket or something over the trap. I would youtube the best way. Thanks for jinxing me, I’m definitely going to have a skunk in the trap next time, because of this question, lol!

Beautiful flock that you have there!
Thank you ser
How many skunks have you live trapped, and how do you get them out of the live trap without getting sprayed?
